The Institute Commune Photos (1967)

The author's van and communal cabin are located within the Los Padres National Forest.

The view to the west, as seen from the commune's meditation rock. The Pacific Ocean coast is on the west side of the most distant mountain.

The view to the east. The Salinas Valley lies between the farthest two ridges. Note the increasingly arid vegetation from west to east. The most distant mountain ridge in the left photo is covered with pine trees, the next ridge has scrub oak trees, while the above Salinas mountains are covered with desert brush

Kathleen and the outdoor communal kitchen with dinner cooking. This fire pit is to the right of where the van is parked. The small kitchen in the cabin is used primarily to store food and utensils and to wash dishes.
